We spent a weekend at home in Vestfold, Norway. A small county south of Oslo with a beautiful coastline and a lot of history. We went to visit Munchs summerhouse in Åsgårdstrand. It was the end of the afternoon, everything was blue. It's like walking inside his paintings. Next time I want to go in the summer, but it felt very true to see this in the winter. Gilles and I went to Pompidou in Paris last year to see a big retrospective of Munchs work. This was a great follow up to that.
This postcard is from Melsomvik in Norway. It's in Stokke Kommune, where I grew up. Every summer we used to hang out here to swim, to barbeque and to just be together with friends and family. I also really like the sea and the beach in the winter. A lot of Norwegians go to their cabins in the mountains and I go to the beach. We were lucky to discover that this last weekend in january, the sea was frozen and it was strong enough for us to walk on. So we did, me, my mum and Gilles, we walked on the sea, in the middle of the fjord. Sometimes you can hear buldering and cracking sounds, which is a bit scary. Beautiful day, sunshine and walking on ice :-)
We spent just an hour on this wonderful island in the lagune of Venice. It was hard to choose just 5 images to show on the blog, but these are some of my favourites. I wish more places where bold with colours in urban environments. xCecilie
Once in a while we manage to go away just for a day to see something new. Whitstable is 1 hour and 30 minutes driving away from us in Highbury. Our friends Jonni, Gogo and Jogo have a great French car and we all fit snugly inside. We were watching Octonauts on the IPad in the backseat and I was inspired by all the cool character names in this animation. My favourite is Captain Barnacle as I just tried barnacles for the first time in my life last year in Lisboa. Delicious.
Back to Whitstable. We parked the car. Jumped out. Put on wind jackets and ran along the pebbled beaches. Then we walked along the sea front, around the harbour, passed the fish market. All full of happy Sunday people eating fish, oysters and cockles. We stopped on the high street to have a Pimms at the Duke of Cumberland, then we grabbed a delicious crab sandwich in Wheelers Oyster Bar before eating lunch in Samphire which was worth the wait. We had honey glazed ham and fish pie.
Just before driving home we all had an ice cream with chocolate from a local farm.
Note: we also popped by a lovely little shop called Frank on the high street, vendors of fine graphic design and illustration books, cards and posters.
