We have just been visiting Greece and its mystical mythological Athens. Visiting the sites surely becomes much more interesting as soon as you read some of the Greek Mythology.
One version of the Greek Mythology says that Athena competed with Poseidon to be the patron deity of Athens, which was yet unnamed. Poseidon offered the first horse to the
citizens.
Athena, however, struck her sword over Akropolis and offered them the first domesticated Olive Tree. The king, Cecrops accepted the olive tree for bringing wood, oil, and food. And with it the patronage of Athena.
Late Classical Greek myths describe Athena as the
"daughter" of Zeus. She was born from his head after he swallowed her pregnant
mother.
